Welcome to the Borough of Chatham's Survey Website

Help Us Determine How The Borough
Should Utilize Its Open Space

In 2001, Borough voters approved an Open Space Tax and the establishment of $0.01 tax per $100 of assessed value (currently about $65 for the average Borough home) to fund the acquisition of land for open space purposes. Currently, the proceeds of the tax can only be used for acquisitions and cannot be used for other purposes such as the maintenance and development of that land.

On July 9, 2007 the Borough Council will consider whether to:

          (1) continue the Open Space Tax to be used strictly for the acquisition
               of land for open space,
          (2) continue the Open Space Tax and expand the purposes for which
it can be used, which may include the development of open space,
the maintenance of open space and/or historic preservation, or
          (3) discontinue the Open Space Tax altogether

The Open Space Advisory Committee believes that the Open Space Tax should be continued so that the Borough can undertake additional open space projects and maintain its eligibility for state and county grants to fund a portion of the costs of such projects. Please complete the brief survey below to let us know your views and to assist the Committee and the Borough Council in this important decision.
